A tragic incident unfolded in Huntington Beach, California when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle last Thursday evening. The Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) confirmed that the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Gothard Street around 6:30 p.m.
The victim, a 68-year-old male resident of Huntington Beach, was found lying unconscious in the roadway by responding officers. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, life-saving efforts proved futile and he was later pronounced dead. The driver involved in the collision, a 25-year-old Huntington Beach woman, was unharmed and remained at the scene to cooperate with HBPD investigators, according to the official press release.
Preliminary details suggest that the white Nissan Rogue driven by the woman was headed eastbound on Warner Avenue when it struck the pedestrian. Authorities indicated that driver impairment does not seem to be a contributing factor in the tragic event. However, the question remains open as to whether the pedestrian was impaired at the time of the accident.
The investigation into this unfortunate incident is ongoing, authorities are calling on any witnesses to step forward. HBPD's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the inquiry and Traffic Investigator C. Houlston can be reached at (714) 536-5559 for any potentially relevant information, no matter how small the details may seem, that witnesses might be able to provide.
