A prized first issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man" comic, dating back to March 1963, has swung into a record-breaking sale, fetching a whopping $1.3 million at a Heritage Auctions event. This sale outdid a previous record for the same issue which sold for $520,300 in 2023, indicating a significant appreciation in the collectible's value, as reported by the Fox Business.

The comic, which captures the origin story of Peter Parker—how he became the iconic superhero and the tragic death of his Uncle Ben, is one of just two copies in near mint/mint condition graded 9.8 by the Certified Guaranty Company. Heritage Auctions described the issue in their catalog noting that it was a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own one of only two copies of this amazing issue in this spectacular grade", per Fox Business.

The Dallas-based auction house gavelled off a variety of high-grade comics during the $20.3-million Comics and Comic Art auction held from January 11-14, with over 5,500 global bidders competing for the coveted titles that included, besides Spider-Man, a "Superman" No. 1 comic which sold for an extraordinary $2.34 million.

"This auction will likely be remembered as the one that, for the moment, reset the market for some very significant titles," Heritage Auctions stated. Highlighting the intense bidding war that also saw a 1942’s 'All-Star Comics No. 8, featuring Wonder Woman's debut driven to a final sale price of $1.5 million, the sale included other notable comics like 'Showcase' No. 4 introducing The Flash and 'The Brave and the Bold' No. 28 with the debut of the Justice League of America, as cited by the Fox Business.

In totality, the entire collection sold amassed over $20 million, signaling a robust market for rare comic book collectibles and the enduring legacy of these early issues that introduced characters that have since become staples in popular culture and the bedrock of contemporary mythology.
