Officer Robert Reeves, whose tenure extended for just over two decades, stepped away from his duties, hanging up his hat in a well-attended retirement ceremony. Reeves, who became a recognizable figure after assuming the role of Public Information Officer in 2019, leaves behind a legacy that is both diverse and dedicated, according to the Irving Police Department.
His journey in blue spanned across a variety of roles, each marked by an unwavering commitment to the community he swore to protect. "He’s taught drug awareness in schools, he served on SWAT, patrol, and the problem-solving unit," the Irving Police Department recounted. Reeves brought his expertise to bear as a bike instructor, a UAS pilot, and a training officer, cementing his reputation as a multi-faceted guardian, per the Irving Police Department.
Moreover, Reeves was an anchor in the Honor Guard, participating in over 100 funerals and demonstrating steadfast composure in the face of loss and tragedy. His leadership over 19 years in this respect has not gone unnoticed, and the community and his department have expressed their deep appreciation for his service. As he transitioned out of the force, his colleagues and the people of Irving did not hold back their praise.
According to the Irving Police Department, adept in his many roles and ever-present in the line of duty, Reeves was fondly referred to as "NINE-THIRTY" by his colleagues, a sign of respect and endearment for the badge number he donned with honor. The department's statement further emphasized this sentiment, reflecting the collective voice of those he served with, "you will truly be missed, and we wish you all the best on your new adventure!"
