In a significant boost to combat organized retail theft, the city of Jurupa Valley has received more than $2 million grant, setting the stage for a surveillance upgrade and a crackdown on theft rings plaguing local businesses. The Riverside Sheriff’s Office Jurupa Valley Station is teaming up with city officials to deploy a network of cutting-edge Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras to monitor criminal activities, according to a recent announcement.

With a hefty sum of $2,219,710, courtesy of the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), Jurupa's streets are set to be lined with 60 ALPR cameras. "The primary objective of this collaboration is to enhance public safety and safeguard local businesses from the increasing threat of organized theft," the statement from Sergeant Damian Chavez detailed. These high-tech eyes will be strategically placed in key locations as an initiative to deter and document any suspicious activities related to vehicle and retail theft.

In the wake of a surge in such crimes, the Jurupa Valley Sheriff Station’s Special Enforcement Team is dedicating resources to investigate and counteract theft operations. This skilled ensemble of law enforcement officers will doggedly pursue and bring to justice those implicated in organized thefts, with a particular focus on vehicular crime – including the thefts of cargo and increasingly targeted catalytic converters.

Further fortifying the fight, the city will launch the Small Business Retail Theft Prevention (SBRTP) Program. Aimed at arming businesses with the tools to fend off retail theft, the program promises to provide training, educational materials, and support. In efforts to fortify the frontline against retail bandits, the initiative will foster a collaborative environment, as local establishments are encouraged to adopt preventive measures against theft, the Sheriff’s Office disclosed.

The unyielding endeavor underscores the commitment of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station and city authorities to the community's welfare. The joint assurance echoes a sentiment that resonates deeply within the valley – to create a bastion of safety for residents and businesses alike. This pronounced partnership is a testament to an overarching agenda: to diminish the shadows cast by organized crime and shine a beacon of security upon Jurupa Valley.
