A tragic conclusion to a desperate search in Kaufman County unfolded Sunday, as a family's worst fears were realized. 40-year-old Logan Jacinto, who had been missing since crashing his car Tuesday night, was found dead in a creek. His body was discovered on private property, close to the site of the accident, WFAA reported.
"It was the call we didn't want to get, you know, to hear that your brother is dead," Logan's sister Sydonia Jacinto expressed. The search for Jacinto was extensive, lasting for five days, with his family leading the charge and organizing volunteer search parties, despite, heavy rainfall and challenging conditions, according to a CBS News.
Jacinto's last communication was a text message to his wife, assuring her he would make it home despite the rain. Witnesses later reported he lost control of his vehicle, colliding with a guardrail. His wife reported him missing on Jan. 3, and though Kaufman County Sheriff's deputies searched the area, Jacinto was not found until his brother made the grim discovery in a nearby creek.
"We weren't gonna give up on him," said Sydonia Jacinto. "We said we were going to be all day all night. That's exactly what we did." But this wasn't the outcome they hoped for, with his brothers finding Logan Jacinto's body less than half a mile from where his crash took place. "My brother, the one who jumped in, he's not processing it," she added, recalling how one brother pulled Logan out of the water, gave him a kiss and told him "I love you", per CBS News.
The family now must cope with the loss of a loved one who, as they remember, brought joy and laughter into their lives. "He was a funny man," Sydonia reminisced. They plan to cherish his memory, affirming, "He might be gone but he's never forgotten." An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, as the family seeks closure in the aftermath of this devastating event, according to CBS News.
