A deadly confrontation between police and a knife-wielding man left the suspect dead in Hays County. The Hays County Sheriff's Office reported that a call came in early Friday morning about a man trying to force his way into a residence with knives in hand.
According to Fox San Antonio, the individual was identified as the ex-boyfriend of the homeowner's daughter, brandishing a knife in each hand and attempting to kick down the front door. The man, in his 30s, failed to comply with the deputies who repeatedly ordered, to drop the weapons, leading the officers to eventually discharge their firearms.
Both deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure following such incidents. The man shot by the deputies was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to save his life by deputies and Emergency Care Services, as stated by the Sheriff's Office in their Official Facebook Page.
In a statement obtained by KSAT, it was confirmed that the Texas Rangers will assist in the subsequent investigation. The circumstances surrounding the shooting have cast a new light on the protocols and split second decisions law enforcement officers must engage, particularly when faced with armed individuals posing a potential threat to public safety.
