A deadly shooting in Kyle, Texas, has left one man dead and his alleged assailant, a family member, behind bars. The Hays County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call in the 300 block of Country Lane shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday, where they discovered the victim with a fatal gunshot wound, reported KVUE.
Witnessed by workmates as always having a smile and a spirited demeanor, a man was gunned down, with his friend lamenting the loss of a "humble man" who cared deeply for his family and friends, according to details shared with KXAN. Law enforcement identified the suspect as 21-year-old Steven Rodriguez, who is facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury/family violence, a felony, and violating bond conditions, a misdemeanor. He is currently held in Hays County jail without bond set.
Investigating officials from the sheriff's office and the combined efforts of deputies, San Marcos and Hays County EMS, and the Kyle Fire Department attempted first aid, but the man's injuries proved too severe. "Deputies arrived on scene, made entry into the house and observed a male laying down with an obvious gunshot wound," HCSO Deputy Anthony Hipolito told KXAN.
Touched by deep-seated mysteries, the motive behind the fatal encounter remains unclear, and authorities are still piecing together the events that led to the man's death. "There's a lot of things that are still ongoing there to try to figure out what happened. Why it happened," Hipolito mentioned in a statement obtained by KXAN. HCSO has not ruled out additional charges as the case evolves. Those with information related to the investigation are encouraged to contact Hays County Sheriff's Office Detective Scott Zediker at 512-393-7896 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
