Firefighters descended upon University Park in the early hours of Thursday, battling a significant blaze that tore through a vacant two-story commercial building. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported the "Greater Alarm Structure Fire" initially at 2700 S University Ave, which was later corrected to the 806 W Adams Blvd location.
The fire, which began at around 2:24 AM, was a tough adversary, with LAFD crews forced into a defensive stance due to the heavy fire showing from the building's second floor. Battling the flames, it took nearly two hours before the department declared a knockout. With heavy fire engulfing the building's front section, the flames were finally extinguished after arduous firefighting operations, detailed the LAFD's follow-up announcement.
The LAFD managed to access and confine the fire and no injuries were reported during the incident. The now subdued beast of a blaze, having raged within the confines of a 150' x 200' structure, left destruction in its wake, with the building's integrity compromised and its future uncertain. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, assured the LAFD.
