Chaos erupted in LaGrange, Georgia, when a man armed with a knife was subdued by police after allegedly trying to stab another man and attacking two officers. The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Lonzell Turman, reportedly chased the victim, Bryant Jones, with intentions to stab at Miss Bubbles Laundry just before dusk on Saturday, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The police were alerted and arrived at the scene around 6:40 p.m., but Turman had fled by the time they got there.
Later that evening, officers located Turman at another location known as Hot Spot on South Greenwood Street. As they attempted to apprehend him, Turman allegedly attacked them with the knife, said officials. Both officers, Harb and Thompson, sustained minor injuries during the struggle. "Officers Harb and Thompson said their injuries were minor," as stated in the report by FOX 5 Atlanta. The suspect was ultimately restrained and taken into custody.
The motive behind the initial chasing and attempted stabbing remains undisclosed by officials. Nevertheless, Turman now faces serious charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated assault against an officer, and two counts of battery against an officer, WSBTV reported. The LaGrange Police Department is urging anyone with additional knowledge of the incident to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation.
