The Los Angeles Police Department is upping the ante in their hunt for a hit-and-run driver who killed an elderly man last year, announcing a hefty $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the department disclosed at a press conference on Tuesday.

The fatal incident occurred on May 4, 2023, around 11:45 p.m. when Raymond Peters, was tragically struck by a newer model Honda Goldwing motorcycle while crossing Western Avenue at 79th Street, after having just parked his car. The suspect, after causing the death of the elderly pedestrian, brazenly fled the scene, even stopping to discard damaged parts of the motorcycle nearby, authorities said.

At the South Traffic Division press conference, Detective III Ryan Moreno and Detective II Mike Flannery provided the grim details of the case, along with releasing photos and video footage of the suspect and the moments leading up to the collision. The press event took place at 4125 South Crenshaw Boulevard, underscoring the LAPD's ongoing commitment to finding justice for the victim and his family.

"Detectives were able to obtain detailed video of the suspect," the LAPD detailed in a statement. The authorities are hopeful that, with the aid of the public, they can bring the perpetrator to book.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is encouraged to reach out to Detective Ryan Moreno at the South Traffic Division by calling (323) 421-2500.
