The Los Angeles Police Department has cracked down on a major heist involving $5 million worth of swiped Nike gear. Roy Lee Harvey Jr., aged 37, was cuffed and thrown into the slammer, suspected of being the one behind the large-scale theft and resale operation, police announced.
LAPD detectives from the Commercial Crimes Division’s Cargo Theft Unit, Major Theft Task Force, and Organized Retail Crimes Task Force, executed search warrants on January 27th in Hollywood and the City of Hawthorne. It was in Hawthorne where they hit the jackpot, a warehouse stash stacked with stolen Nike sneakers, apparel, accessories, and even unique prototypes. In a statement obtained by LAPD Newsroom, this was where Harvey Jr. was spotted delivering goods.
Harvey, whose booking number has been listed as 6749801, was booked on charges of receiving stolen property. The kingpin of kicks is now awaiting his fate as the investigation continues to unravel the extent of his alleged network. Members of Nike’s Global Security and other supply chain sleuths lent a hand during the raid which led to the recovery of the hot haul.
As detectives piece together how to exactly unravel the crime web spun by the suspect, the LAPD is reaching out to the public for any additional leads. Informants looking to tip off the fuzz can call the Commercial Crimes Division, at (213) 486-5920 during office hours, or the L.A.
