Fans of the Detroit Lions are buzzing with excitement as their team stands on the brink of an appearance in the Super Bowl, but those looking to follow the Lions to the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers are facing sky-high travel costs. Tackling flight and hotel bookings, faithful supporters are finding round-trip airfare prices surging upwards of $3,100 as demand spikes, according to FOX 2 Detroit.
Despite the potential financial blitz, loyalists like Mike Borders couldn't resist the draw of the Bay Area showdown. "I can't put into words what it means for the city and myself as a fan," Borders exclaimed in an interview with WXYZ. Prices on Ticketmaster start from $665 and skyrocket to over $10,000 for premium seats. David Fishman of Cadillac Travel Group advises nabbing tickets in the $1,200 to $1,500 range for decent views of the action, representing a steal compared to Super Bowl rates.
On the accommodation front, while flight prices might be on a skyward hike, hotel rates in San Francisco appear more down to earth. With rooms going for as little as $160 a night, the time to act is now before they, too, take flight. "The sooner you do it, the better the odds are of getting a better rate," Fishman stated to FOX 2 Detroit.
Sue Ball, the owner of Sphera Travel in Grand Rapids, painted a picture of spending at least $6,000 for a pair of Lions devotees to cheer on their team in person, as per a report by FOX 17. Troy Baker, BBB's vice president told FOX 17, "With tens of 1000s of Lions fans across the country looking to go to these games, there's a lot of opportunity to find people that could become a victim."
As for the chilly forecast in Santa Clara, Fishman advises fans to leave the flip-flops at home and pack for a "London-type feel," as per insights from FOX 2 Detroit.
