Chaos unfolded in West Newbury on Friday when a dump truck carting logs rolled over, choking Turkey Hill Road with debris and bringing traffic to a standstill. The West Newbury Police Department said the mishap happened around 12:40 p.m. near Rogers Street, involving a 10-wheel truck that was navigating southward on the road.
Following the crash, the driver, who somehow managed to come out virtually unscathed, was evaluated right there at the chaotic scene and turned down hospital treatment, WHDH reported. Emergency personnel from West Newbury, Merrimac, and Newburyport were soon at the accident site, struggling to contain the situation and clear up the splintered load.
Visual accounts shared by the police showed the incapacitated vehicle lying on its flank with its wooden cargo littering the road's edge, as per WHDH. Despite the severity of the scene, officials were quick to assure concerned locals that the spill posed no environmental threats, notably free from any hazardous materials.
As Turkey Hill Road lay closed, authorities immediately combed over the details trying to pin down what caused the dump truck to lose its poise. Both the local police force and the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section spearhead the ongoing investigation, as gleaned from what BNN Breaking detailed about the accident's following events.
