Long Beach is reshaping its management deck, with City Manager Tom Modica announcing a strategic reshuffle aimed at streamlining services and pushing the city toward its 2030 vision goals. In a recent statement, Modica called the move a step toward "strategic work streams and service priorities," as reported by the City of Long Beach's website.
Shaking up the executive team, responsibilities are divvied up fresh among the newly anointed Assistant City Manager, four Deputy City Managers, and a Chief Public Affairs Officer. According to the press release obtained by the City of Long Beach, Modica, alongside Assistant City Manager April Walker, will have a joint grip on the helm steering citywide issues like homelessness, economic development, and safety, as well as labor negotiations and the annual budget.
Chief Public Affairs Officer Kevin Lee will mastermind the City's communication efforts. Lee's purview will span crucial arenas like emergency communications, the City's branding, and liaising with media. All while reinforcing the messaging for city programs and initiatives, Lee's office will also handle the primary social media channels.
Deputy City Managers will be spearheading targeted focus areas: Meredith Reynolds for Growth and Resilience; Teresa Chandler for Equity, Wellness, and Prevention; Grace H. Yoon over Strategic Governance and Policy; and Tyler Bonanno-Curley waves the flag for Transparency, Civic Management, and Partnerships. Wrapped up in their purview are various initiatives ranging from homelessness strategies to tech modernization efforts. Each Deputy City Manager will also offer support for city committees and commissions, adding another layer to their portfolio of responsibilities.
Details of the restructured executive management team and their areas of focus can be viewed in the City's official announcement.
