The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department marked the first anniversary of a mass shooting in Monterey Park that claimed 11 lives. The massacre, which took place a year ago, shook the local Asian American community when a gunman went on a rampage at the Star Dance Studio.
In a heartfelt message posted on their Facebook page, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department extended their condolences to the victim's families and the community. "On behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and the community as they continue to heal from this devastating and senseless act of violence one year ago today," the department said. They emphasized the community's strength, unity, and resilience in the face of such tragedy, according to the statement obtained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The remembrance also hailed the quick actions of Brandon Tsay, a local man who heroically thwarted the shooter's attempt to continue his assault at another location, the Lai Lai Ballroom in Alhambra. Tsay's intervention is credited with likely preventing further loss of life in the attack. "We praise the vigilant actions of a hometown hero, Brandon Tsay, who bravely stopped the gunman’s additional attempt to enter the Lai Lai Ballroom in the city of Alhambra and prevented further violence," the department underscored.
