In a show of force against the rising tide of organized retail thefts across the Antelope Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Organized Retail Theft Task Force recently dismantled an illegal fencing operation, nabbing multiple suspects in the process. The sting resulted in the recovery of over $300,000 worth of stolen merchandise, ranging from power tools and yard equipment to clothing and A/C compressors, all lifted from popular chain stores including Home Depot, Lowes, Target, and Walmart.
Investigations into a spate of thefts, which occurred between December 14, 2023, and January 7, 2024, led detectives to identify a group of suspects believed to have collaborated in the commission of these crimes. The orchestrated operations culminated in a bust at a Littlerock property on 94th Street East, where the primary suspect was found to allegedly run the fence operation. According to a statement by the Sheriff’s Department, two handguns were also seized during the search.
The task force, a division within the Sheriff Department’s Major Crimes Bureau formed in September 2023, has been focusing its efforts on curtailing organized retail crimes, which have seen a troubling uptick in the area. The suspects, now in custody, face charges including Organized Retail Theft and Grand Theft; two of them have additional charges for felonious possession of a firearm. They were booked at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, each held on $50,000 bail, with the next court appearance slated for January 29, 2024.
Deputies from the Organized Retail Crime Task Force are pushing ahead with public outreach efforts to collaborate with businesses and local communities affected by such crimes. They are continuing their coordination with other law enforcement agencies, including federal partners, to effectively tackle the issue at hand. In a call to action, the department encourages anyone with information on these crimes to reach out to the task force by email at [email protected], or by phone at 562-946-7270.
