A tragic roadway encounter claimed the life of a man in his 60s last Friday. According to KSTP, the incident occurred just before 3:00 p.m. on Highway 23 in Marshall, Minnesota. The victim, identified as Gary James Snook of Lynd, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Snook's Dodge Ram was traveling northbound on Highway 23 when it crashed into a Freightliner Straight Truck, the truck was turning onto southbound Highway 59. Tragically, Snook was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 30-year-old Taylor Ronald Schmidt from Ruthton, escaped the crash unscathed. The intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 59 became the grim stage for this fatal encounter, raising questions.
As detailed by Marshall Radio, emergency services including the Marshall Police Department, Marshall Fire Department, and Marshall North Ambulance were at the scene to aid. The identity of Snook was withheld until Saturday, allowing time for notification of his next of kin.
