Authorities have released the identity of a man involved in a fatal altercation with San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputies in Morongo Basin last week. Frank Glasgow, a 57-year-old resident of Mammoth Lakes, was identified as the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene of the confrontation, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department confirmed in a statement.
The incident unfolded on January 6, 2024, at Covington Community Park where deputies were called to attend to a potentially suicidal individual. Glasgow had reportedly contacted Sheriff’s Dispatch, declaring his intention to commit "suicide by cop." Upon arrival, deputies attempted to engage Glasgow with public address announcements, persistently stating their intentions to safely resolve the situation. The standoff escalated when Glasgow proceeded to recklessly drive around the park, eventually colliding with a patrol vehicle.
After the crash, Glasgow was said to have emerged from his vehicle brandishing a knife and charged at one of the deputies, which led to the fatal shooting. "Despite life-saving measures by deputies, the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene," according to the Sheriff’s Department. The official report noted no other injuries occurred during the incident.
A dog accompanying Glasgow managed to escape the vehicle amidst the chaos and is currently unaccounted for, with information passed on to San Bernardino County Animal Control. Meanwhile, detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division are conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident. Members of the public with information have been urged to step forward and can do so anonymously through We-Tip. "Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective Malcolm Page," the department conveyed.
