A fatal car accident has claimed the life of a man in Long Beach, authorities announced Tuesday. The Long Beach Police Department reported the incident occurred on the morning of January 15, when a vehicle traveling at high speed crashed near Harbor Scenic Drive and Queens Highway.

Officers responded to the call around 7:50 a.m. and found the male driver critically injured, despite efforts from first responders the man was pronounced dead at the scene the Long Beach Fire Department were unable to save him. Speed and possible impairment are being looked at as causes for the collision which involved a 2020 Kia Optima slamming into a median and then an overpass pillar, authorities are still delving into what exactly happened.

While the investigation continues, detectives are withholding the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin, this information will come from the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
