Residents in Maple Grove were met with an unexpected disruption Tuesday morning as a blaze quickly escalated in a local townhome's garage. According to KSTP, the fire department was alerted to the situation around 9:00 a.m. following a call reporting visible flames from a vehicle inside a garage on Alvarado Lane, a stone's throw from County Road 30 and Brockton Lane intersection. Firefighters were rapidly dispatched to the scene to battle what Maple Grove Fire Chief Tim Bush described as an "extensive fire" that had made its way up toward the roof of the home.
Initial reports indicated that a fire seemed to unfurl from the rear of an electric vehicle that was parked inside the garage. This particular vehicle, as advised by the Maple Grove Fire Department to CBS News Minnesota, was a hybrid, equipped with a gasoline-powered range extension. Upon arriving, firefighters had to contend not only with the flames but with the challenges posed by the townhome's structure, finding difficulty in reaching the fire nestled deep within the attic and other concealed spaces.
The firefighting effort was a display of interdepartmental cooperation, with four Maple Grove Fire stations responding to the emergency. Personnel aggressively worked to douse the flames and managed to extinguish the main fire swiftly, but spent additional time snuffing out stubborn hotspots, which persisted until around 11:00 a.m.
No residents were found within the home during the response, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Crews from Golden Valley were also on site, according to CBS News Minnesota, to provide assistance and to vigilantly monitor the health and safety of the responding firefighters. As of now, the fire remains under investigation, with officials diligently working to uncover the cause of this unexpected inferno.
