A late-night stroll turned fatal for a Marietta man who was struck and killed by a car as he attempted to cross a busy thoroughfare. The incident occurred on Saturday just after 10:15 p.m., when 57-year-old William Gould was hit while traversing an area outside a designated pedestrian crosswalk, authorities said.
The Marietta Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit has quickly begun an investigation into the deadly event. According to FOX5 Atlanta, Gould was crossing Wylie Road when a 2014 Nissan Altima collided with him. The collision resulted in Gould's immediate death at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Nissan has not been publicly identified amidst the ongoing investigation. Police have been piecing together the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome on South Marietta Parkway at the intersection with Wylie Road.
11Alive reported that the car was traveling eastbound on South Marietta Parkway when it approached the intersection and fatally struck Gould. Officers have since been trying to fully piece together the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
