In a chaotic eruption of engines and screeching tires, South LA and Compton were the stages for five street takeovers on Sunday night, during one of which a shooting resulted in four people being injured, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. at Alondra Boulevard and Central Avenue in Compton, where both men and women were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries, and as of now, the shooters have evaded capture with no arrests made no suspect information has been shared with the public.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the string of takeovers spanned various locations and included a significant disruption at Century Boulevard and Western Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. Not only did this incident pose a challenge to public safety, but it also led to numerous arrests and citations for traffic violations. The LAPD and the LA County Sheriff's Department together arrested 24 individuals, also fifteen were cited, and an array of 14 vehicles were impounded. ABC7 adds that after more than 20 cars got towed, and around 150 citations were dished out from another large event on Saturday night, it seems that efforts to deter these actions have so far fallen short.
The Boyle Heights area also saw its share of disruption, specifically on the Sixth Street Bridge. More than 30 vehicles were impounded for engaging in such activities, the LAPD stated, spotlighting the scale of the events as participants continue to push against law enforcement's crackdown on illegal street takeovers. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the crimes to step forward and contact the Compton Station at 310-605-6500.
