Two suspects who thought they could give the cops the slip by hiding on a rocky ledge near the Braintree Split, were outsmarted by the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing. The duo was on the lam yesterday after crashing their vehicle and sprinting into the woods during a narcotics pursuit initiated by Quincy Police.
The chase unfolded around the Route 3/Route 93 interchange in Braintree when the suspects tried to dodge law enforcement but ended up crashing. Trooper Timothy Hunt, the pilot, and Trooper Mason Oliveira, the tactical flight officer of MSP Air Wing's Air 3 helicopter, were quickly on scene. Despite the suspects attempt to lay low on a granite outcrop, the eagle-eyed cops spotted them from the sky at approximately 5:55 PM, as reported by the official Massachusetts State Police News.
Trooper Oliveira was able to expertly guide ground units directly to apprehend the two men. These fugitives were taken into custody by Quincy Police shortly thereafter. Their plan to out-hide law enforcement quickly crumbled thanks to the aerial vantage point and skilled coordination between the air and ground teams.
The MSP Air Wing is no stranger to heroics, continually proving to be a crucial asset in State Police and local police operations. Flying out of bases in Plymouth, Lawrence, and Chicopee, these pilots consistently go to rapidly assist not just in manhunts but also lend support to fire departments and other state police departments across New England.
