A Massachusetts man had a narrow escape on Interstate 95 when a canoe dislodged from a dump truck and came crashing onto his pick-up. Stephen Cunningham of Medway was traveling behind a "Got Junk" truck on the highway in Lynnfield when the unexpected incident occurred, severely damaging his vehicle's windshield.
Driving his pickup down I-95, Cunningham was caught by surprise when the canoe, having taken flight from the dump truck, lodged itself into his windshield, according to a Boston 25 report. Cunningham, despite coming face-to-face with severe danger, maintained humor in the aftermath, admitting, “I couldn’t see too good after!”
The incident reportedly took place when Cunningham found himself unable to maneuver away from the oncoming danger due to the heavy traffic surrounding his vehicle. The driver quickly pulled over after the canoe struck, thankfully unharmed. The misplaced canoe ended its aerial journey on the other side of the highway, as stated in an NBC Boston interview. "The canoe hit my truck and went over the other side of the highway," Cunningham said.
Lynnfield Police reported receiving several calls from residents who noticed the canoe resting at the side of the road. Boston 25 is currently seeking updates on whether the driver of the dump truck has been identified or any charges have been filed. No serious injuries were reported, as Cunningham appeared to walk away from the ordeal largely unscathed.
