Chaos erupted in Methuen early Saturday as police responded to a reported disturbance at a Brown Street residence, necessitating the call for backup from a regional SWAT team. According to Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara, officers secured the area around 4:00 a.m. and had to quickly request assistance from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team due to the severity of the incident.
The situation escalated when one suspect decided to suddenly flee on foot upon police arrival, leading them on a brief chase. The individual was eventually captured and is now being held at a nearby hospital. Another person involved in the disturbance was also taken to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries, as noted by Methuen Police Department in their official facebook page. Despite the commotion, Chief McNamara has assured the public that "there is no ongoing danger to the community."
The neighborhood, while now safe, continues to show a heavy police presence, which residents can expect to remain for several hours. The authorities have kept tight-lipped about the specifics of the disturbance. "No further information is being released at this time," the Methuen Police Department said.
