Minneapolis residents should brace for a flurry of snow this weekend, according to the latest weather forecast. The city is expected to see snowflakes starting to dance through the sky since 9 am, with chances of snow continuing into the afternoon. "A chance of flurries between 9 am and noon, then a chance of snow after noon," reports the National Weather Service. With clouds overhead, thermometers are tipped to just touch 34 degrees.
A band of snow will develop across western Minnesota this morning and will slowly move east throughout the day. An additional half inch to inch of accumulation is possible, with the highest amounts to the northwest of the Twin Cities. Slick travel conditions possible. #mnwx #wiwx pic.twitter.com/wyDuthZruh

The evening is set to chill down to a low of 21 degrees, and those same skies will likely let loose snow before the clock strikes 4 am. "Snow likely before 4 am, then a chance of flurries between 4 am and 5 am," the forecasters predict. The swirling wind, shifting from southwest to northwest after midnight, is expected to generously sprinkle less than a half inch of new snow.
Sunday may offer a mirage of respite with partly sunny conditions and an almost comfortable high near 27, but the wind, refusing to quiet, will maintain its pace at 5 to 10 mph. As night falls, the mercury is expected to drop back down to around 21 degrees, with the chill ushered in by a soft north-northwest breeze.
The start of the week doesn't promise much of a change, with Monday seeing a 30 percent chance of snow to further blanket the already frosted city. Cloud cover is set to persist, capping highs at a chilly 31 degrees. "Cloudy, with a high near 31," chimes in the weather service, while the east wind sets to blow at a steady 5 to 10 mph rhythm. Monday night's forecast is not likely to warm any hearts, promising a 40 percent chance of flurries and temperatures steady around 28.
As the week marches onward, Tuesday through Friday residents can expect an almost unbroken canopy of cloud cover. Highs will hover in the twenties, with chances of snowfall occurring intermittently throughout the week. This steady pattern culminates with Thursday and Friday offering a greater reprieve from snow, yet no rise in the biting cold, as temperatures are forecasted to barely creep up to near 19 and 17, respectively.
For those planning further ahead or daring to dream of milder days, the weather service caution still hangs in the air: "A 20 percent chance of snow." Minneapolis, it seems, is truly in the thrall of winter's embrace. For more details on the forecast, visit the National Weather Service website.
