Two months after a Minneapolis man was hit in a hit-and-run while riding a Lime scooter, his family's determined search has turned up new surveillance footage that they hope will lead to finding the driver responsible. Robert Foster, a three-time ballroom dance champion, now faces a difficult recovery, forced to rely on a cane and seizure medication after celebrating his 60th birthday in less-than-ideal circumstances.
According to a report by FOX 9, Foster's family has been diligently canvassing the area, acquiring video from a jewelry store, a taco restaurant, and an apartment complex. These clips depict the moments leading up to and including the crash. "He and I have been walking up and down [Lyndale] as much as we can. So that's kind of next step is to see if we can provide any of that closure and find whoever did this," his daughter Cara Foster shared with FOX 9.
The incident, which occurred on November 5, saw Foster navigating a narrow bike lane on Lyndale Avenue while returning from a Vikings game. An apartment complex's security cameras caught the moment a white SUV struck Foster near the intersection with 27th Street, sending him flying the length of a parked car. "He flew the entire length of this parked car, and the driver just kept going," Cara recalled in her statement to FOX 9.
Initially placed in a medically-induced coma to address injuries and seizures, Foster has shown signs of improvement since awakening and is now able to breathe on his own, WCCO reports. His daughter has canvassed local businesses and turned to social media seeking any additional footage or witnesses. "It's one thing to accidentally hit somebody, but it's another to leave him there and not own up to it," Cara Foster told WCCO.
The Minneapolis Police Department has affirmed the case remains a "top priority," with investigators working tirelessly to gather evidence, including reviewing more footage, some even from a Metro Transit bus. "This case has been, and continues to be, a top priority for the Department," police stated to FOX 9. The family also appeals to the community, asking for anyone with information or footage to come forward, in the hope of obtaining the elusive license plate number.
