Minneapolis residents brace for a week of snowy conditions, as forecasters predict up to 3 inches may blanket the city through tonight, particularly to the west and south of the metro area. According to the latest weather reports from the National Weather Service, snow is mainly expected before noon today, with chances of precipitation standing at 80% and day-time accumulations amounting to less than half an inch.
Tonight's forecast doesn't provide much reprieve, with a 90% chance of additional snowfall and expected accumulations of less than an inch. The chilly trend continues into Tuesday, with patchy blowing snow and a gloomy high near 29 degrees. The coming days also herald a much colder airmass—one that promises highs in the single digits and teens. "Wind chills will drop into the teens and 20 degrees below zero," the Hazardous Weather Outlook warns, painting a frosty picture for the rest of the week.
Concerns aren't melting away later in the week. Starting Thursday, high temperatures will barely scrape 18 degrees, while overnight lows are predicted to plummet, hovering around 7 degrees by Friday night. The Hazardous Weather Outlook advises residents to prepare for bone-chilling conditions extending well into the next week.
As residents hunker down, the National Weather Service calls upon citizen spotters and snowfall observers to aid their data collection. A statement from the weather service said, "Spotters and snowfall observers are encouraged to report snowfall amounts to the National Weather Service." These weather patterns not only signify a busy period for local meteorologists but also call for Midwestern resolve and community spirit as Minneapolis shoulders yet another display of winter's might.
