Minneapolis residents are waking up to a bracing forecast this week, with the National Weather Service issuing wind chill advisories highlighting the frigid conditions set to grip the region. Today will see mostly sunny skies but cold temperatures, with the high hovering near a mere 5 degrees and wind chill values plummeting as low as -25. Blustery west winds at 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph, add a biting edge to the already freezing temps slated for Minneapolis, MN, according to the National Weather Service.
The hazardous weather isn’t letting up tonight either, as it’s expected mostly cloudy with lows around -1 degree and wind chill could feel as cold as -15; people should wrap up warm and minimize exposure because "the cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 minutes," as per the National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook.
Meanwhile, Wednesday will offer a minor respite with partly sunny conditions but still low temps around 7 degrees, but the wind chill factor remains unforgiving, potentially reaching -16 in the morning, while the afternoon will continue to see cold winds up to 15 mph.
Looking ahead, Minneapolis will stay under mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the week with cold, maintaining the chilly trend, high temperatures are barely reaching 5 degrees on both Thursday and Friday, for those looking forward to the weekend, there's a slight temperature uptick; Saturday appears sunny with a high near 11 and Sunday partly sunny with a high near 21 though breezy, with winds pushing to 30 mph gusts, providing some relief from the intense cold snap residents have been experiencing, reported by the National Weather Service.
Despite the current spell of severe cold, there is some light at the end of the tunnel; as the week closes, temperatures are anticipated to climb to a high near 33 by Monday, according to the same forecast, but people must stay vigilant, especially during these hazardous mornings when complete winter gear is essential to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Residents are advised to consistently monitor conditions and take necessary precautions as per weather service guidelines and to expect no hazardous weather after Monday for the time being.
