Minneapolis cops snapped into action following a ShotSpotter alert in a high-crime area, swiftly nabbing two males toting illegal firearms. On the scene near the 2900 block of 12th Ave S, Minneapolis Police Department officers, who were operating in a sector notorious for violent outbursts, intercepted a vehicle departing the zone within two minutes of the technological gunfire detection, leading to the suspects' arrest on Probable Cause Weapons.
The quick response from the 3rd Precinct culminated in the confiscation of two handguns, along with components likely intended for the assembly of a so-called 'Ghost' gun; these tools, untraceable by nature because of their lack of serial numbers, constitute an emerging threat on the streets. Minneapolis Police Chief, Brian O'Hara, vocalized his alarm regarding the city's battle with unlawful weaponry asserting "The number of illegal guns on our streets continues to be excessively high,". With these recent arrests showcasing the gravity and the dangers our law enforcement face daily, they don't flinch in the face of looming peril to ensure public safety and this relentless pursuit of crime prevention.
O'Hara lauded the officers' valor, signaling their critical role in the city's overarching strategy to mitigate violent crime; the Chief remarked in a public statement that "The actions of these officers are just one example of how our officers are running towards gunfire and placing their lives on the line to keep our residents safe," as quoted in a post by the Minneapolis Police Department.
"Getting illegal guns off the streets of Minneapolis is a top priority, and every illegal gun our cops remove from the street is a potential life saved," O'Hara accentuated, pinpointing a correlation between the illicit firearms seizures and the prevention of tragedies that otherwise might have unfolded.
