Minnesotans with a connection to adoption are being called upon to weigh in on upcoming changes to access original birth records. The Department of Human Services (DHS) is hosting a series of Zoom engagement sessions to gather feedback, crucial for refining the process as the state prepares for adjustments in the system, according to Morrison County.
Starting January 30 and continuing through February, DHS is reaching out for input from various groups in the adoption community, including adopted individuals, adoptive parents, birth parents, kinship caregivers, and other relatives.
Session details outline multiple dates and times to accommodate different participants. Birth parents have a chance to voice their experiences on January 30, with two separate opportunities: one at noon and another at 5:30 p.m. Siblings, grandparents, and other kin are scheduled for February 1, while adopted adults and adoptive parents, along with kinship caregivers, have their sessions slated for February 6 and 8, respectively, as per Morrison County.
All participants must be age 18 or older, the state's focus on ensuring an adult dialogue about matters that require a depth of personal experience and societal understanding.
