In an act of unexpected wildlife heroism, a trapper in northern Minnesota took lifesaving measures to revive a pine marten, a member of the weasel family, that had been inadvertently caught in a trap intended for bobcats. The trapper contacted a conservation officer from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) after discovering the distressed marten, as reported by CBS News Minnesota.
"He reported the marten was still alive but not moving," the DNR detailed in the report, as the trapper awaited the arrival of the conservation officer. In an unforeseen twist, the officer was greeted with video evidence; the trapper had taken the initiative to perform "rescue CPR" on the ailing marten, successfully reviving the creature, later witnessed and verified by the conservation officer.
The wildlife officer used this opportunity to praise the trapper's quick thinking and compassionate action. "Commended the trapper for going to that extreme length" to save and return the marten to its natural habitat, the DNR reported with a nod to the man's extraordinary efforts, as per CBS News Minnesota.
Further details of the incident, specified that the marten's revival and subsequent release back into the wild were directly aided by the trapper's actions. The conservation officer was on site to witness the marten's recovery and ensure its safe return to Minnesota's northern forests where, still covered in its dark brown fur, near Blackduck it can once again thrive, as noted by WKOW.
