The state of Minnesota has officially welcomed its first professional women’s hockey team into the rink. Making their debut as part of the newly founded Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), the local team clashed sticks with Boston in the season opener.
Supporters are set to witness plenty of high-octane action as the squad aims to quickly carve out a solid reputation in the competitive sphere. "You're going to see us having fun, but you're also going to see us competently compete, body on body contact and doing everything we can to win games," stated Taylor Heise, a center on PWHL Minnesota, according to CBS News Minnesota.
Lacing up for their first home game at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota continues to ride a wave of community support, bolstered by local players like Heise, who bring not just talent, but native pride to the ice. "It's an honor. I've represented my country, but representing the state that gave me an amazing 20 years so far has been an experience," Heise said, as per CBS News Minnesota.
With tickets starting at $24, fans are eagerly snapping them up online for a first glimpse at Minnesota’s newest athletes. Adding to the fanfare, "A Bar of Their Own," a sports bar dedicated solely to women’s sports, is hosting a watch party to bring together hockey aficionados for the game, as stated by FOX 9 News.
As the local players prepare to make their mark, fans can’t seem to get excited about the high-energy, rough-and-tumble games that lie ahead. As forward Kelly Pannek pointed out, "The more we can connect with our community, the more it helps our team, helps our fan base, creating that excitement, that passion," reported CBS News Minnesota.
