Minnesotans are bracing for a bone-chilling week ahead as forecasters predict persistent, dangerous cold that could set your teeth on edge. With wind chill values expected to plunge as low as an almost unthinkable 35 degrees below zero in some parts of the region, it's clear that this is not your average winter weather pattern. The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN has issued Wind Chill Advisories and Warnings that underscore the severity of the imminent cold snap.

Residents of the affected areas, which includes the populous Minneapolis, have been advised to dress in layers, cover all exposed skin, and limit time spent outdoors. "The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes," warns the National Weather Service. The current forecast for Minneapolis is a frosty high of -2 degrees, but with wind chills factoring in, it could feel much colder. Tonight's forecast suggests a plunging to a low of around -9 degrees, with wind chills dipping to -26 degrees.

As Martin Luther King Day approaches, Minneapolis won't see much respite from the Arctic grip, with the high inching up to a mere -3 degrees and wind chill values hovering around -27 degrees. Conditions are set to remain frigid through early in the week, with "wind chill values of 20 to 35 degrees below zero are expected through Tuesday morning," states the Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service.
