A quiet Sunday morning in Moreno Valley was disrupted by gun violence that left a 40-year-old man dead, authorities said.
The shooting occurred early Sunday, and despite efforts to fully save his life, the victim succumbed to his wounds hours later. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the unidentified man was shot at a residence on Red Mahogany Drive. Deputies who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident rushed the man to a local hospital, but he ultimately lost his battle with life-threatening injuries.
The Central Homicide Unit has now taken the reins of the investigation, in a bid to bring to book the perpetrator who remains at large. Directives have been given to the public to come forward with any information that could help in the investigation. "The victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification," stated Lieutenant M. Martinez in the press release.
Law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect, described as a young adult male in his 20s, with curly brown hair, last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants. He managed to quickly flee the scene before deputies could apprehend him. Investigators are particularly interested in any video footage that might have captured the incident or the suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator A. McCracken of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6700 or Investigator Gilbert of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2700, as per the official press release.
