A 6-year-old girl, Hosanna Sancho, was brutally killed on Wednesday, in what police say was a violent act carried out by her mother on the Southwest Side. Nephiterea Sancho, 36, allegedly took her daughter's life inside their apartment at the Frontera Crossing Apartments, as reported by FOX San Antonio. Charged with capital murder, Nephiterea has a documented history of violence against children.
The tragedy unfolded shortly after 3 p.m. when police were summoned due to Nephiterea's erratic behavior. Upon arrival, officers discovered, Hosanna's lifeless body. According to Hosanna's uncle, Kenny Vallespin, in a statement given to FOX San Antonio, her cousins encountered a horrifying scene, something that will probably, "never be able to get out of their heads for the rest of their lives." The accused was reportedly found naked, wandering around the complex after which she claimed she killed her daughter because "God told me to sacrifice her."
Attending first grade at Bellaire Elementary, Hosanna was remembered for her violin playing, her swimming joy, and her dreams of being a cheerleader. Through a heartbroken narrative shared by the family, it was learned that she cherished teaching her cousins cartwheels, the water, and was looking forward to riding the school bus for the first time, a wish tragically unfulfilled.
A local non-profit, Eagles Flight, known for their work with abandoned, and abused infants, as well as women affected by domestic violence, has stepped up to support Hosanna's family. KENS 5, shared that Eagles Flight will be conducting a vigil this Sunday at Woodlawn Park at 3 p.m. This organization recently hit a decade of service and Hosanna will be the 51st individual they have helped lay to rest.
The family spoke about Nephiterea's struggles with mental health issues, as per an interview on KENS 5. Hosanna was actually under the care of other relatives living in the same building. The day before the incident, Hosanna had stayed over at her mother's apartment. The following day, after failing to reach her, two cousins went to check on Hosanna, finding her in a pool of blood with stab wounds. The family emphasizes the importance of seeking help for mental health challenges, especially for those entrusted with childcare responsibilities.
