Long Beach was struck by a bout of violence on Saturday night with two shootings reported within hours of each other. No one was injured in either incident. The first occurred around 8:34 p.m. near the intersection of 67th Street and Indiana Avenue where Long Beach Police Department officers discovered evidence of gunfire. According to the LBPD blotter, the scene was littered with bullet casings and strike marks. As of now, there are no leads on a suspect or a motive, and the investigation is actively continuing.
Later that same night, a second shooting was confirmed by the LBPD, this time in the 1400 block of Magnolia Avenue around 11:34 p.m. On the heels of the earlier incident, officers again found bullet casings and strike marks that testified to the violence that had erupted. No victims have come forward and no suspect information has been released. Despite an increase in patrolling and investigative efforts, the perpetrator remains at large.
The back-to-back nature of these events has left residents on edge, particularly as these were not hit shootings, where the potential for serious injury or fatality runs high.
The LBPD is combing through surveillance footage, conducting interviews, and waiting on forensic analyses that they hope will lead them to the persons responsible.
