A student at a high school in Perris was arrested Tuesday for allegedly carrying a loaded gun on school grounds, authorities said. The Raleigh County Sheriff's Department reported that the School Resource Officer at the high school, which sits on E Nuevo Road, was tipped off about the armed pupil shortly before 2 p.m.
Deputies moved swiftly on the information, trailing the student through the school's halls that were potentially hiding a dangerous secret under his jacket. The juvenile, whose identity was not released due to his age, was found to be carrying a loaded firearm, concealed but ready. "A search of the juvenile revealed a concealed and loaded firearm," the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department stated.
There were no threats made to students or staff, according to the sergeant's briefing. The incident, which unfolded without further incident, saw the young suspect being booked into juvenile hall. Sergeant Justin Hill emphasized that the apprehension took place "without incident," suggesting the situation was resolved quickly and without harm.
The motivations behind the juvenile's choice to bring a weapon to school remained enshrouded in the ongoing investigation's shadows. As details continue to emerge, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Deputy Jason Machado, associated with the Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch, can be reached for further comment or tips. School officials and law enforcement stress the importance of community vigilance in maintaining the safety of their educational spaces.
This incident is part of a larger, concerning trend of firearms appearing on school premises. While the juvenile's intentions remain unclear, the prompt response by school officials and law enforcement may have averted a potential tragedy. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading to the arrest.
