The Plano Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own this week. K-9 Zen, a retired Plano Police Patrol Service Dog, passed away on January 3. Zen, who served from 2013 to 2019, was remembered for his sharp nose and expertise on the streets, contributing to several significant narcotics busts and patrol finds, according to the Plano Texas Police Department.
During his storied career, Zen was known for his key role in the apprehension of one of Arkansas' most wanted fugitives—a feat achieved in tandem with his handler, K9 Officer R. Jackson. To locate the fugitive was a challenging track. Known for his determination, Zen proved to be a critical asset in the fugitive's ultimate capture, an accomplishment the department holds in high regard.
Zen's partner, Plano Police K-9 Officer Jackson, reminisces about their time together, noting more than just Zen's skills in the line of duty. Sharing Twizzlers and companionship, Officer Jackson valued Zen as more than a service dog, but also as a beloved colleague and friend. "Godspeed to my ever-vigilant partner. Your presence is already missed,” Officer Jackson said in tribute to his fallen partner, as per the Plano Texas Police Department.
