The Plymouth Police Department has proudly announced its continued status as a fully accredited agency, reaffirming its adherence to numerous standards considered to be exemplary within the realm of American policing. This achievement, heralded since 2019, underscores the department's commitment to preventing "Bias Based Profiling," as part of their accreditation process.
In a recent release, the department shared the results of its annual review. Remarkably, traffic stops conducted by the Plymouth Police indicated no instances of bias, with 4,152 citations distributed among various racial demographics—90.2% White, 6% Black, 3% Hispanic, 0.7% Asian/Pacific, 0.1% Native American, and 0% Middle Eastern/Asian. To thoroughly ensure transparency, the department has made these findings public.
The department's post also detailed other facets of law enforcement activity, notably field contacts and asset seizures, stating, "9 separate cases totaling $3,988.00," and emphasizing that no biases were identified in these actions. Additionally, forfeiture efforts were reported to have no pending cases, further underscoring an absence of bias.
Among the citizen complaints lodged in 2023, the department referenced a single complaint involving an officer allegedly using a racial slur. After an investigation, the Professional Standards Investigator found no evidence to support the allegation beyond the testimony of the complainant, who was interviewed at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility. "The complaint was 'not sustained,'" the department declared, negating the claim of bias.
In their message to the public, the Plymouth Police took the opportunity to express their pride in the professionalism of their officers. "We are proud of our Officers who go out every day ready to serve, and to put it in laymen's terms... 'Could care less about a person's race, religion, or creed, but will treat anyone they come into contact with respect and dignity,'" the department conveyed, assuring the community of their equitable approach to law enforcement.
