A knife-wielding man was arrested Thursday night in an unincorporated neighborhood of Redwood City after allegedly attempting to stab another man during a heated altercation. Cristian Yanes-Sumana, 23, is being held on charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and making criminal threats, according to San Mateo County Sheriff's Office deputies.
The incident was reported at 9:52 PM on the 500 block of Oakside Avenue in the area known as North Fair Oaks, where Yanes-Sumana was detained on scene. Charged with PC 664-187, which is an attempted murder felony, as well as PC 245 for assault with a deadly weapon and PC 422 for criminal threats, his arrest followed a confrontation during which he purportedly threatened to kill the male victim.
Authorities say the victim was able to fend off the attack and escaped injury. After the incident, the suspect was taken to receive medical care for minor injuries before being booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. As the details of the altercation continue to come to light, the motivations behind the attempted stabbing are still being pieced together by local authorities.
