A high-speed chase ended in the arrest of an uncooperative trespasser and her accomplice on the freeways of California. The pursuit occurred after an incident on the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, where 26-year-old Adriana Sandoval refused to leave a business parking lot. According to the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station, Sandoval, a Riverside resident, fled the scene with two children in her sedan, almost hitting a deputy in her haste.
Refusing to stop for law enforcement, Sandoval led deputies on a dangerous chase down the 60 and 215 freeways, colliding with various vehicles, thankfully with no injuries reported. The pursuit came to a standoff on the northbound Interstate 215, east of Blaine Street, when Sandoval barricaded herself and the juveniles inside the vehicle. In a bizarre turn, another individual, 24-year-old Johnathan Roldan, drove in the wrong direction in an attempt to intervene on Sandoval's behalf, the Sheriff's Station reported.
With lanes blocked for about 30 minutes, the situation was diffused following negotiations with Sandoval, leading to her apprehension. The children were found unharmed and placed in protective custody. The Sheriff's Station stated that Sandoval has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and other related offenses, and is facing $100,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center. Roldan was arrested for obstructing an investigation, reckless driving, and driving without a license.
During the incident, traffic was heavily impacted, but the freeway was reopened to the public shortly thereafter. Deputy Ismael Bermudez is leading the continuing investigation and urges anyone with information to reach out. The Media Information Bureau remains the point of contact for further inquiries about this case.
