An 85-year-old San Antonio bride, Harriet Galbraith, has been reunited with her bridal portraits from 1959 after they were bought by a Virginia woman at an auction sale.
The woman, Sandra Poindexter, was actually in quest of picture frames when she placed a five-dollar bid on the portraits without initially realizing their sentimental value. "Before I could get back to my seat I thought, wow I wonder who this is, these pictures look beautiful," Poindexter told KENS 5.
Driven by curiosity about the pictures' backstory, Poindexter took to Facebook, sparking a social media search that led to the discovery of Galbraith as the bride in the photographs. According to a report by Fox San Antonio, the power of social media bridged the gap of hundreds of miles, delivering a heartwarming reunion of memories.
Grateful for the return of her cherished memories, Galbraith recalled gifting the photos to her late mother, who previously resided with her sister in Virginia. "It’s a nice dream come true because I thought I’d never, ever get these pictures back," Galbraith explained to KENS 5. She plans to pass on the portraits to her granddaughters, although not before enjoying them herself for a while longer.
Both Poindexter and Galbraith now share an unexpectedly formed bond, with Poindexter remarking on her newfound life-long friend. Indeed, this blend of nostalgia and new friendship exemplifies the unpredictable connections that sometimes arise from the most mundane of transactions. "And now I know this story and it’s really inspired me," Poindexter said, according to KENS 5.
