As a hard freeze gripped San Antonio, leaving thousands without power, one ingenious couple found a novel way to keep their morning routine intact. A TikTok user posted a video that quickly went viral, showcasing the use of their Tesla Cybertruck to brew coffee amidst the outage. San Antonio Express-News reports that nearly 3,000 CPS Energy customers in the 78251 area code were left in the cold from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. yesterday. The exact number of those affected by the outage was pegged at 2,917.
In the video that has since to rapidly garner over 8,000 views, a man is heard explaining their workaround as his wife plugs in the coffee maker to their vehicle. "The power went out here today in Texas," the man narrates. "I wanted coffee and my wife said, 'No problem, I'll be right back.' I didn't realize what she was doing, but of course, she came over to the Cybertruck, plugged in the coffee maker and — boom — now we have coffee being made." This improvisation showcases the versatility of the Tesla Cybertruck, which comes equipped with both 120-volt and 240-volt power outlets. Built at Tesla's Gigafactory in Austin, the electric truck stands as a beacon of resilience in Texas, a state repeatedly battered by severe weather conditions affecting its power gridas, reported by San Antonio Express-News.
Texas continues to shiver under a blanket of icy weather, putting additional strain on the state's power grid. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas issued a conservation notice earlier today in response to the gnawing cold, expecting demand to remain high through the week. While some Texans might be left searching for solutions, the couple's video serves as a reminder of the potential of electric vehicle technology not just in transportation but also as an emergency power source in times of need. The Cybertruck, with its massive battery, brings into the limelight the role electric cars can play in powering essential appliances during outages.
According to Supercar Blondie, the Tesla Cybertruck's extensive battery capacity not only powers the vehicle itself but can also charge gadgets. In a twist of self-reliance, the Tesla Powerwall—a sizable battery—could even be used to not only charge your Cybertruck, but also to power your home until the truck runs out of juice. Hence, in the face of unreliable weather and power stability, one Texas couple demonstrated how innovation and technology can come together to lighten up to ultimately overcome an otherwise dark and cold situation.
