A dream turned nightmare unfolded for a San Antonio couple this weekend when a rear-end collision during a morning commute shattered their burgeoning food truck enterprise. Jose and Alicia Lepe, proprietors of Mio Amore food trailer, were propelled into chaos when their vehicle got hit, causing significant damage to their mode of livelihood. Speaking to KSAT, Jose recalled the terrifying moment, "Boom! I felt the hit in the back, and I felt that my truck lifted. And ‘boom, boom, boom! We started rolling over."
The San Antonio Police informed that the accident occurred near Loop 1604 and Culebra Road, where following too closely, both the Lepes' truck and the vehicle behind attempted a lane switch simultaneously. Before the Lepes knew it, got rear-ended by the trailing truck and were sent tumbling into the median, according to The Elite Times. Miraculously escaping with their lives and minor injuries, the financial toll of the accident is not insignificant; the couple faces a total loss in the range of $70,000 to $80,000.
Journeying through the entrepreneurial world for two and a half years, following their retirement, the Lepes had put their all into the Mio Amore food truck. They relished in their ability to work for themselves and please customers with their signature dishes, such as the fiery "Mamma Mia" pasta. However, their laughter now echoes against the backdrop of their flipped dreams. "Our business is over," Jose stated, with Alicia echoing the sentiment, "Everything is over," as they told KSAT.
Now facing an uncertain future, the resilient couple isn't sure how they will recover. They find solace in their survival; Jose said to KSAT, "Giving thanks to God that we’re OK, because everyone who was there thought we were dead because it was a really ugly crash." The Lepes are hoping donations can help bridge their sudden financial gap while they grapple with the abrupt halt to their fulfilling venture.
