In a somber gathering on the Northwest Side of San Antonio, family and friends united in grief to remember the lives of Matthew Guerra and his pregnant girlfriend, Savanah Soto. The 22-year-old father-to-be and 18-year-old Soto were found shot to death inside a car, days before the anticipated birth of their son, Fabian. As reported by FOX San Antonio during the New Year's Day vigil, the Guerra family expressed their unbearable loss and the vacuum left behind by the tragedy.

Victims' families are searching for answers in the ongoing investigation.“If he was here right now, I would give him a big hug because I miss him and I wish this didn’t happen,” Matthew Guerra's older brother, Steven Hernandez, told FOX San Antonio. Surveillance footage recently released by the San Antonio Police Department revealed two persons of interest, but no immediate progress in the form of arrests. According to Hernandez, despite the emergence of videos and multiple leads, the authorities have yet to make a significant breakthrough.

In a statement obtained by KSAT, Raquel Guerra, Matthew's stepmother said, “I thought that I’d be babysitting Fabian for New Year’s or something. I and Savanah had talked about so many things she had planned for Fabian,”

"He was the only one in the family that didn’t need braces," Matthew's cousin joked while they embraced the memories that continue to burn bright in the face of darkness. Gabriel Guerra, Matthew's dad, affirmed his commitment to keeping their memory alive, telling KSAT, “I miss him, and I’m going to be his voice in this time, and we’re never going to forget him, Fabian, and Savanah and the love they have for each other,”

Gabriel Guerra expressed faith, as caught by FOX San Antonio's cameras, that the authorities will eventually bring closure, "There are cameras everywhere, in my heart of hearts hopefully it’s just a matter of time before something is found."
