
San Antonio firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze yesterday at an abandoned South Side building, reportedly started by a homeless individual seeking refuge from the cold. FOX San Antonio stated the fire began shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the derelict former CPS Energy facility situated along Mission Road, in proximity to Interstate 10.
Upon their arrival, emergency crews encountered thick smoke but managed to douse the flames swiftly while navigating through the structure, according to KSAT, the SAFD and SAPD were on the scene of the fire, that caused minimal damage because it had not spread far, crews were able to put the fire out without further incident, fortunately, no one was hurt.
The fire investigation is underway, focusing on the plight of the city's homeless, thrust into desperate actions by plummeting temperatures; the unnamed individual responsible for the inadvertent blaze was not present when firefighters arrived and thankfully accounted for as there were no injuries reported.
