A San Antonio home was left charred after a fire broke out in the garage in the early hours of New Year's Day, as the city’s firefighters grappled with multiple blazes across town. The garage fire, which inflicted an estimated $70,000 in damages, ignited on the 4900 block of Sierra Madre Drive, a location not far from Perrin Beitel Road and Thousand Oaks Drive, and quickly spread to the rest of the house, KSAT reports.

According to authorities, the residence was empty at the time the flames erupted shortly before 1 a.m., leaving the homeowner to return to the devastating aftermath firefighters say the inferno ravaged the garage before advancing through a hallway, and ensuing efforts to douse the flames were captured in overnight video footage on the northeast side, as firefighters tirelessly worked the scene where the garage was left gutted and the roof significantly compromised, as conveyed by KENS 5.

The San Antonio Fire Department, along with the San Antonio Police Department, managed the situation and are still investigating what sparked the garage fire; meanwhile, no injuries were reported among the first responders to the scene.
