San Antonians looking to ditch their Christmas trees after the holiday season can now recycle them into mulch. The city's Solid Waste Management Department has set up five drop-off centers that will accept trees through January 13, as reported by the San Antonio Report.

To make things easy for residents, the trees can be placed in green curbside organics collection bins on normal collection days. Other recyclables like plastic bottles and metal cans should find their way into the blue bins. According to the MSN Lifestyle, trees taller than 6 feet must be halved. Decorations, lights, and stands should be removed before recycling, and trees should not be placed in bags.

The following locations are open for drop-offs with varying hours: Culebra Road Bulky Drop-Off Center at 7030 Culebra Road; Frio City Road Bulky Drop-Off Center at 1531 Frio City Road; Rigsby Road Bulky Drop-Off Center at 2755 Rigsby Road; and Atlas Organics at 8963 Nelson Road. Live trees are the only acceptable items, with wreaths, garlands, or live plants not permitted.

For those who choose to recycle their trees at these centers or during curb collection, the Bitters Brush Recycling Center at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will offer free mulch. The mulch is available about two weeks after the event ends, while supplies last, the San Antonio Report informs. Texas Disposal Systems also accepts Christmas trees at Garden-Ville, located at 7561 E. Evans Road, where decorations turned mulch can be purchased in the state.
