San Antonio just got a little more inclusive. Morgan's Salon, a beauty hub catering specifically to individuals with disabilities and special needs, will open its doors on Tuesday. It's the latest venture from Morgan's, the organization that's made headlines for their unique approach to inclusivity with a theme park, water park, sports park, and camp all designed with accessibility at the forefront. The salon is strategically located in Morgan's Multi-Assistance Center, aiming to make beauty services more accessible than ever before.
The salon reaches out to a segment of the population often overlooked by the beauty industry. According to KSAT, Morgan's Salon comes equipped with features like a portable sink for wheelchair users and fragrance-free products to cater to those with sensitivities—an intentional move to ensure everyone can enjoy a pampering session without barriers. "We talked to experts and we talked to caregivers and we talked to family members and we talked to friends and we talked to everybody possible who could possibly use a salon like this," explained Gordon Hartman, the founder of the nonprofit organization.
But it's not just about practicality, the Morgan's Salon experience emphasizes the dignity and personalized care of its customers. "Recognizing the person before the service, never forcing, or restraining, and taking the pressures of timing away as you go through your experience of self-care," the salon's website states. Every guest is meant to leave the salon not just looking their best but feeling respected and valued.
Adding a touch of star power to the salon's grand opening, John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of the beauty empire Paul Mitchell, is set for a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, as FOX San Antonio reports. Despite the glitz, Morgan's has maintained a focus on affordability. Voucher systems are in place for members of the Multi-Assistance Center who need financial aid, ensuring cost is not a prohibitive factor.
